Pickleball vs Padel: What's the Difference and Which Should You Play?
Breaking down rackets, enclosed glass walls, ball speed, and strategic gameplay dynamics.

The Two Fastest Growing Racket Sports
Both pickleball and padel have exploded across India, capturing the imagination of casual players and seasoned athletes alike. While both offer rapid rallies and infectious fun, their equipment, court setup, and tactical demands differ fundamentally.
At Pickle Haus, we offer dedicated arenas for both sports in Pune — Pickle Haus at NIBM and our covered glass-walled Padel Haus at Salunkhe Vihar. Here is how they stack up.
The Court: Open Air vs Glass Enclosures
Pickleball is played on an open 44 × 20 ft court with defined out-of-bounds lines similar to tennis. If the ball lands outside the boundary lines, the rally ends immediately.
Padel, by contrast, is played in an enclosed 20 × 10 meter glass cage. The ball can be played off the glass walls after bouncing, much like squash. This creates 360-degree rallies with dramatic ricochets and behind-the-back retrievals.
Paddles and Balls
Pickleball uses solid paddles made of carbon fiber or fiberglass with a polymer honeycomb core, striking a lightweight perforated plastic wiffle ball. The ball has less rebound, emphasizing placement, dinking, and soft touch.
Padel uses thicker, perforated foam-core racquets without strings and strikes a pressurized, slightly depressurized tennis-style felt ball. Smashes can rebound high off the glass back walls, allowing athletic overhead counters.
Which One Should You Choose?
Pickleball is perfect if you want immediate accessibility, fast hands at the net, and friendly community games without high cardiovascular strain.
Padel is ideal if you love three-dimensional angles, rebounding shots off walls, and tennis-like groundstrokes with higher physical intensity. The best news? You don't have to choose — you can play both right here at Pickle Haus!
